How we score
LabelLens does not give opinions about brands. Every score is computed by a
fixed formula from the product's own ingredient list and nutrition panel,
measured against public, internationally recognised standards:
- WHO — nutrition thresholds (sugar, sodium, saturated and trans fat)
- Codex Alimentarius (FAO/WHO) — additive identity and INS numbering
- JECFA (FAO/WHO) — Acceptable Daily Intake limits for additives
- IARC (WHO) — carcinogen classifications
- EU Cosmetics Regulation — restricted/banned cosmetic substances
National rules (e.g. FSSAI in India) are used for context and naming only.
A grade reflects how a product measures against these standards — it is not a
statement about a company's honesty or intent. Where a product is described as
containing a flagged ingredient, that is a factual statement based on the label
and the standards above.
